Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Red and green food coloring
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Green royal icing
  • Red royal icing
  • Edible candy eyes

Instructions:

Mix flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl with a whisk

Put away

Melt the butter and mix it with the sugar in another bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy

Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix them in well

Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients one at a time until a dough forms

Split the dough in half

Mix the two halves together and add red and green food coloring, making sure the colors are spread out evenly

Start by heating the oven to 350F 175C

Make a ball out of a small amount of red dough for each apple tree cookie

Spread it out a bit and put it on a baking sheet

Do it again with the green dough

After the oven is hot, bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden

As soon as you take the cookies out of the oven, press a pretzel stick into the top of each green cookie to make a tree trunk

The cookies should cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before being moved to a wire rack to cool all the way

After the cookies have cooled, use green royal icing to pipe leaves around the pretzel trunk on the green part of the cookies

You can pipe apples on the red part of the cookies with red royal icing

Give each apple a fun and cute look by putting two candy eyes on them

Wait for the royal icing to harden before you serve or package it
